The subject of the cartoon must be topical, hot and fresh in the news. The political cartoonist must be well versed in politics, well informed and knowledgeable in history and current affairs.
A political cartoonist must not be timid about expressing their personal point of view. Yet he must do it humorously. Very often it is provocation. He is like an editor writing an editorial. He has to shoulder a lot of responsibilities as his cartoons can influence minds.
